JOB TITLE: Assistant Operations Technician – Co-op

DEPARTMENT: Public Works and Engineering

NUMBER OF POSITIONS:  6

JOB STATUS & DURATION: Temporary 4-8 months

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hour workweek 

LOCATION: Williams Parkway Operations Centre

HOURLY RATE:  $21.87

JOB TYPE:  Management and Administration

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for assisting with the day-to-day administration of maintenance contracts and permit operations.

    • Inspecting infrastructure repairs completed by Contractors such as asphalt road repairs, curb repairs, sidewalk repairs, and minor bridge maintenance.
    • Performing pre-construction progress and final construction inspections of the Road Occupancy and Access Permits.
    • Assists in investigating customer service requests
    • Measuring quantities for payment.
    • Assists the coordinator dispatching snow removal equipment (fall and Winter work terms only)
    • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external
    • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

EDUCATION:

    • Completion of High School (Grade 12) graduation or equivalent
    • Currently enrolled in a full-time Civil Engineering Technology program. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

    • Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G/G2 driver’s license and the use of your own vehicle (mileage will be compensated at $.072 per km for the first 5,000 km and $0.66 km thereafter, per year).
    • Access to personal cellular phone for daily use (to be compensated at $20.00 per month by the City of Brampton).
    • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment at all times while in the field
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
    • Must be able to work variable hours.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions and ability to walk/stand for long periods of time.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 kg.
    • Completion of Criminal Record Check.
