JOB TITLE:  Assistant Capital Works Technician - Co-op 

DEPARTMENT:  Public Works And Engineering

NUMBER OF POSITIONS:  5

JOB STATUS & DURATION: Temporary 4-months  

WORK TERM: May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hour workweek / shift work 

LOCATION:  Williams Parkway Operations Centre  

HOURLY RATE $21.87

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: 

This is field inspection position that requires travel throughout the City of Brampton.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Surveys & Technical Support Services, including support
from Maintenance Planning Technologist and Program Planning Technologist; this role
will assist in conducting needs and condition surveys on the City’s infrastructure
including sidewalks, bus pads and other assigned assets. Training and guidance will be
provided to assist in accomplishing your primary responsibilities. 

    • Utilizing Apple iPad with ArcGIS (or comparable) software, conduct maintenance
      needs and condition surveys on City infrastructure.
    • Primary role will consist of sidewalk and transit pads needs and condition
      surveys through walking the City of Brampton’s sidewalk network and
      determination of deficient sections of sidewalk and bus pads requiring
      maintenance attention along with assessing overall condition.
    • Upload field survey information to import into City Work or for other staff to
      produce infrastructure repair lists for the Road Operations Division.
    • Report all concerns/issues to immediate supervisor for follow up.
    • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
    • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures,
      Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety
      Standards.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

SELECTION CRITERIA:   

 

EDUCATION: 

    • Completion of Grade 12 (High School Diploma) or equivalent.
    • Currently enrolled in Civil Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or
      related post-secondary co-op program

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS: 

    • Valid Class “G or G2” Driver’s License, the use of your own vehicle is required.
      Mileage will be compensated.
    • Access to Personal Cellular Phone as this job requires the use of your own phone.
      Usage will be compensated.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an
      emphasis on customer service
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions and ability to walk/stand for long periods
      of time
    • Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in
      Brampton
