  • September 2025 to March 2026: Hybrid schedule (3 days in office).
  • April 2026 to December 2026: 5 days in office.

SALARY GRADE:  6

HIRING SALARY RANGE:  $100,277.00 - $112,812.00 per annum

MAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE:  $125,346.00 per annum

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Reporting to the Manager, Communication Services, with accountability to the Deputy Clerk, Elections, Accessibility and Lottery Licensing, this position is one of a group of technical professionals who provide expert delivery of communication services to internal clients throughout the City. This position will provide dedicated communication services support for the 2026 Municipal Election project. Working as part of the core Election team, this position will be responsible for preparing and delivering the City of Brampton’s 2026 Election Communications and Engagement Plan, including oversight and coordination of public engagement activities.

 

Works closely with internal client to interpret communications needs and provides expert guidance and editorial support in identifying target audiences, crafting key messages, and selecting the most effective delivery channels. The result is a comprehensive approach that supports the successful implementation of the City’s 2026 Election Communications and Engagement Plan. Produces communications material (print and video), as required throughout the Election project. This includes creative conceptualizing, writing, editing, and working with the Creative Services & Production teams to design, print and produce tactics. 

 

Develops and implements mainstream and multilingual media elements of the Election Communications and Engagement Plan. This includes bringing forward recommendations as a subject matter expert on effective content, timing, style and distribution channels. Identifies and coordinates opportunities for positive media coverage.

 

Monitors and reports in a timely manner on corporate-wide issues to ensure that the appropriate persons (staff, Council, senior management) are aware of the status. Interface with staff and external stakeholders in the interest of issues management and resolution and facilitates the necessary actions. Provides professional support to cross-corporate committees as required.

 

Facilitates cross-divisional collaboration and the inclusion of key stakeholders to help safeguard and enhance the Corporation’s brand reputation by ensuring messaging is clear, aligned and reflective of its strategic priorities.

 

Researches and provides expert opinions as a subject matter expert in the field of organizational communications. Brings ideas for change, including implementation of best practices and the development of innovative communication vehicles. 

 

Responds to inquiries from staff, elected officials, the public and outside agencies regarding corporate services and programs, special events and PR initiatives. Collaborates with and contributes to the overall Strategic Communications team. 

 

Identifies opportunities for community outreach and public engagement to inform and educate the public about the Election, and coordinates Election Office attendance and participation at City events. Attends public engagement events as part of Election Office team.

 

Supports the work of the Election Office by participating in project team meetings, adhering to operating budget for Election communications, attending Election events, reviewing training materials and resources for election workers, and participating in other Election projects and duties as required. 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

EDUCATION:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, English or related subjects

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years of organizational communications experience, preferably in the public sector
  • Experience dealing with the media on complex issues
  • Demonstrated experience in providing communications support to senior management and elected officials

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Asset if a member of International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or a similar related professional organization
  • Demonstrated success in an account manager or communications consultant position
  • Understanding of municipal government environment and current issues
  • Understands the use of technology and its impact on communication
  • Solid English language usage skills
  • Has subject matter expertise in the design and delivery of effective communications products and messages. Understands creative design and print, digital and web production
  • Uses MS Office, email, internet and other PC tools
