JOB TITLE:  Student Planner, Downtown Revitalization

DEPARTMENT:  Planning, Building and Growth Management

NUMBER OF POSITIONS:  1

JOB STATUS & DURATION:  Temporary 4-months

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hour workweek / flexibility to work evenings, weekends as required

LOCATION:  Hybrid Model – when working onsite, you will report to the location of City Hall

HOURLY RATE:  $21.48

JOB TYPE:  Management and Administration

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:    

                 Join the Downtown Revitalization team this summer and help drive impactful projects through planning research, coordination, and community engagement. This role will support planners and                engineers in the review and coordination of downtown revitalization projects, including public realm improvements, engagement initiatives, and marketing efforts.

    • Independently fulfill administrative and program tasks, including preparing correspondence, documentation, minute taking, memos, reports and presentations
    • Liaise with City departments and agencies and the public on planning proposals and planning matters.
    • Provide program support for divisional initiatives, programs, processes, projects, and events
    • Assist project leads with planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of divisional policies, programs, special events in the downtown area
    • Participate in working groups and brainstorming sessions to provide input, ideas, insights
    • Perform data entry and database management
    • Communicate and follow up with internal and external business partners to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects
    • Prepares project / program updates for management review
    • Maintain confidentiality based on the requirement to access and maintain sensitive sectional or divisional and organizational communication, reports, materials and records
    • Maintaining an understanding of Downtown Revitalization programs, services, and related city initiatives.
    • Attending meetings, training sessions, and events as required, including occasional evening or weekend events in the downtown area.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

EDUCATION:

 

    • High school (Grade 12) graduation plus working towards an Undergraduate Degree and/or Post-Graduate Degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Public Administration or post graduate certificate in related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 

    • Knowledege and experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer graphics programs (Adobe Photoshop)

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Quick learner, capable of working in a rapidly changing environment and with deadlines.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.

             **Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.
