LOCATION:  Hybrid Model*– when working onsite, you will report to the location of City Hall

SALARY GRADE:  7

HIRING SALARY RANGE:  $111,485.00 - $125,421.00 per annum

MAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE:  $139,356.00 per annum

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Manager, Development Engineering Approvals, this professional position is responsible for guiding subdivision developments and site plans through the approval process effectively and efficiently. This ensures that designs meet City, engineering and legislative standards and protects public safety.

 

Facilitates approval process. Organizes engineering activities in the approval process, with various internal and external agencies. Provides conditions of approval for Site Plans and Subdivision Development Agreements. Recommends approval of engineering plans after all required obligations (including legal and financial) are met.

 

Provides engineering expertise. Analyzes engineering designs using computer system. Checks for accuracy of design works as prepared by Consulting Engineers. Ensures that adequate safety protections are provided, and that drawings and associated stormwater management reports and Geotechncial Reports are in accordance with provincial and municipal standards, specifications and guidelines. Ensures unnecessary maintenance costs are eliminated.  

 

Supervises engineering technologists. Provides day-to-day guidance and technical leadership to technologists. Distributes and assigns work. Conducts performance evaluations and recommends training & development. Provides input to divisional budgeting process and prepares annual report on activity.  

 

Representative on committees, to establish standards and criteria for all developments in the City. May represent Division on other committees and teams, meeting with external agencies, developers and landowners to provide advice as it relates to engineering work for future planning of subdivisions

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

 

EDUCATION:

  • Degree/diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Registered Limited Licence with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience (inclusive of E.I.T. experience) in a municipal or similar public sector engineering environment.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Proven ability to manage in a team environment.
  • Training in engineering computer applications Project Management experience and methodology.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English.
  • Conflict management and influence skills.
