JOB TITLE:  Environmental Planning Assistant - Summer

DEPARTMENT:  Planning, Building & Growth Management

NUMBER OF POSITIONS:  2

JOB STATUS & DURATION: Seasonal, Temporary

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hour workweek

WORK TERM: May 05 - August 22, 2025

LOCATION:  Hybrid Model – when working onsite, you will report to the location of City Hall.

HOURLY RATE:  $21.48

POSTING DATE:  January 15, 2025

CLOSING DATE:  January 22, 2025

 

 

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Planning, assist Environmental Planners with research, analysis, graphic design, development application evaluation and organization of resources.

 

  • Assist Environmental Planners implement the City’s Grow Green Environmental Master Plan including:
    • prepare background materials for memos and reports, research, presentation, case studies, workshops,
    • Assist with the establishment of internal staff Grow Green Team
    • Assist with the development of communication and engagement strategy
  • Review and analyze the City’s Natural Area Inventory and Natural Heritage Restoration Program
  • Assist with the implementation of the City’s Sustainability Guidelines and Metrics
  • Assist with the review of development applications, Environmental Impact Studies, and other environmental reports/studies
  • Compiling meeting agendas, minutes and other administrative tasks
  • Conducting site visits with staff
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

    • Post-secondary student in planning, geography, architecture, landscape architecture with urban design, healthy communities, environmental sustainability and natural heritage planning interests
    • Knowledge and experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer graphics programs (Adobe Photoshop)
    • Design skills are an asset
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
    • Fast learner, capable to work in a rapidly changing environment and with deadlines
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
    • The successful candidate will be required to complete mandatory Health and Safety Training facilitated by the City of Brampton upon commencement of the work term.

**Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.
