    Payroll Supervisor Opportunity

    As part of the Corporate Finance team and reporting to the Manager of Payroll Services, the Payroll Supervisor is responsible to effectively lead a team of staff that processes payroll for non-union and union staff. This position ensures payments are delivered accurately, on time and within all legislated regulations.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Leads, mentors, coaches a long tenure dedicated team;
    • Monitors performance and provides continuous ongoing feedback to facilitate success;
    • Assists in the recruitment process and orientation of new employees;
    • Develops training plans and ensures staff are kept up to date with any applicable legislative changes and succession planning;
    • Reviews and approves work and monitors manual work to ensure compliance;
    • Verifies and approves complex calculations and reconciliations;
    • Provides assistance on verifying and approving weekly and monthly remittances;
    • Ensures controls and audit systems are reviewed and updated as needed;
    • Performs full cycle year end payroll activities;
    • Analyzes and provides payroll metrics with recommendations;
    • Responsible for monthly reports to internal departments and external partners;
    • Acts as project lead or key stakeholder and subject matter expert on special assignments;
    • Maintains strong relationships with internal departments such as HR, IT, Finance to ensure collaborative efforts and seamless service; and
    • Provides interpretation of applicable Collective Agreements.


    Qualifications and Skills: 

    • A minimum of 5 years of progressive supervisory payroll experience in a unionized environment;
    • University degree with a focus in Business, Accounting, Commerce or similar program;
    • Completion of the Canadian Payroll Association Certified Payroll Manager program with a CPM designation;
    • Expert knowledge of Federal, Provincial, Regional, and Municipal Governments, applicable Legislations and awareness of current social, economic and political priorities;
    • Excellent knowledge of computer systems applications to payroll; knowledge of PeopleSoft is an asset;
    • Strong Microsoft Office Skills;
    • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with attention to detail;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of customers;
    • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent deadlines; and
    • Strong customer service skills and the ability to instill this in direct reports

    **Starting Salary: $ 87,514.00 per annum (negotiable)
