    The Media Coordinator role is centred on advancing this narrative for Brampton. We’ll be looking to you to make recommendations that align organizational activities with our narrative and develop media strategies that present a unified, positive image for the City.


    Using skills picked-up through the completion of your degree or diploma in communications, journalism or public relations, and a minimum of three years of experience in the field, you will work with the communications team and clients across the corporation to identify stakeholders that need to hear about the City of Brampton and develop media strategies that will land with these audiences.


    As the successful candidate you will:

    • proactively seek outlets and pitch stories that resonate with identified target audiences
    • develop forward-thinking media strategies for major City campaigns
    • help create and distribute crisp media products including advisories, releases, service updates and matte stories
    • cultivate relationships with journalists and media outlets by providing appropriate and consistent responses to media inquiries
    • monitor and report on media coverage in a way that informs the division’s strategic decisions
    • monitor, report and advise on media issues to ensure appropriate internal stakeholders are kept informed and issues are properly managed
    • help identify strong corporate spokespeople and provide/ coordinate media training
    • share responsibility for internal distribution of daily media clips



    • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations.
    • Minimum of three years of organizational communications experience dealing with media on complex issues, preferably in the public sector.
    • Demonstrated experience in providing communications support to senior management and elected officials.
    • Understanding of municipal government environment and current issues.
    • Understanding of the use of technology and its impact on communication.
    • Solid English language usage skill (both oral and written).
    • Member of International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or a similar related professional organization an asset.
    • Has subject matter expertise in the design and delivery of effective communications products and messages. Understands creative design and print, audio and web production.
    • Uses MS Office, Adobe, email, internet and other PC tools.
