WORKOPOLIS-TEMPLATE (2)

The By Law Enforcement Division is looking for motivated team players to assist with the summer inspection duties within the City of Brampton’s residential and/or commercial properties.

 

 

Work Term:  May to Sept

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

Under the guidance of the Manager, By-Law Enforcement, Supervisor, By-Law Enforcement or Property Standards & By-Law Enforcement Officer, enforces grass and weed cutting by-law, boulevard maintenance by-law, refuse by-law, specific sections of the minimum maintenance by-law pertaining to standing water and other related by-laws through the issuance of orders and/or notices. Conducts related inspections of properties throughout the City, maintains a professional, positive and tactful demeanour.

 

REPORTS TO:

Manager, By-Law Enforcement or Supervisor By-Law Enforcement

 

RECEIVES DIRECTION FROM:

 

Manager, By-Law Enforcement, Supervisor By-Law Enforcement or Property Standards & By-Law Enforcement Officer

 

POSITION DUTIES:

 

  • Enforcement of City By-Laws through the issuance of Orders and/or Notices when violations of City by-laws are apparent;
  • Responds to inquires pertaining to by-laws:  in person on properties, at front counter, telephone;
  • Performs inspections, re-inspections of properties throughout the City;
  • Prepares all correspondence / documentation relating to files and maintains related files and records;
  • Refers matters to Property Standards & By-Law Enforcement Officer and/or City Contractor;
  • Oversees work of City Contractor to ensure work is conducted according to city standards i.e. clean ups etc.;
  • Collaborates and interacts with other enforcement agencies and other City Departments;
  • Patrols private residential and/or commercial properties in an enforcement vehicle or by foot.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Enrolled in one of the following post secondary programs:  Municipal Law Enforcement, Police Foundations, Law & Society, Law & Security, Criminology, Law or any other related discipline;
  • Good understanding of how to conduct an investigation and the Rules of Evidence;
  • Ability to deal with various stakeholders and at times difficult customers;
  • Work in a fast paced, complaints based and proactive investigations environment;
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite;
  • Excellent customer service/public relations’ skills;
  • Valid Ontario non-probationary Class G license with a clear driving record and able to obtain a City of Brampton Driver’s Permit;
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.

 

** Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.
